Pick up your minivan at the airport and drive a short 40 minute to a very cozy hotel, perfectly located on English Bay, overlooking the beach and on walking distance to Stanley Park and vibrant downtown Vancouver.
Today you have ample time to explore and show your children how attractive Vancouver can be; the famous Vancouver Aquarium, hiking or biking in Stanley Park (next door of your hotel) or take a small water taxi to Granville Island, the paradise for kids with a fantastic Kids Market and lots of street performances.
Like a cruise through wild nature. During the 90 minute sailing to the Island you might see killer whales, seals, bald eagles and in the background the Olympic Mountains in the US. Children love this trip.
From Nanaimo on Vancouver Island you follow an incredibly scenic route to the Pacific Rim; the west coast of Vancouver Island. Long, white sandy beaches, rainforest and the picturesque town of Tofino. Your stay is in A-frame cottages on a unique location, overlooking the ocean.
Time for the kids to wander on the beaches to find shells, starfish etc.
Only a few minutes walking from your cottage is Tofino's small harbour. You will be taken on a spectacular whale watch tour in a small zodiac boat. As soon as you leave the harbour you are surrounded by bald eagles, sea lions, seals and the biologist guide will try to find gray whales in the sheltered bays. A very exciting and educational day for both parents and children.
The afternoon you can spend exploring the friendly town and get inspired by the unspoiled beaches south of Tofino.
Today is as exciting as yesterday. With a small vessel you will be canoeing with first nations people to Maeres Island in the Clayoquot Sound. This protected wilderness island has rainforest, secluded bays and beaches and carries a long history of the Aboriginal First Nations. Your First Nation guide will show you the secrets of the past. We can assure you, this is not a 'boring Sunday afternoon' activity. The coastal waters are the feeding grounds of the gray whale.
It is time to leave this paradise and get inspired by the rugged forests of central Vancouver Island. We have chosen a very special location where we arranged private family guiding in rock climbing, white water kayaking and survival skills, sea kayaking, high ropes challenge, canoeing. A true wilderness experience for families. The lodge's accommodations consist of rooms in log and timber framed chalets. All meals and guided activities are included and are based on the family's ability level.
Discover your strengths and share in the excitement of recounting the day's discoveries and accomplishments with your children. Within a supportive environment, climb a rock bluff, rappel on a rope, swing on a zip-line and co-operatively solve problems on a ropes course. Learn survival techniques, canoeing, kayaking, orienteering and wilderness etiquette. Natural history discussions are stimulated while exploring a sphagnum bog, home of insectivorous sundew.
After morning's activities, a short drive brings you to Courtenay where you take a small ferry to cozy Powell River on British Columbia's Sunshine Coast. Your stay is in a family oriented in Lund. Here is lots to see...
The beautiful and friendly Sunshine Coast has many interesting sites, lots of history and summer events. Your stay is in a ocean view room in a true wilderness resort of high quality. Wilderness also means, no tv, no telephone and no alarm clock!
Fishing, kayaking, biking, swimming, exploring the beaches or reading a book on the deck overlooking the ocean. It is up to you. This is what a true family vacation is like.
At time of reservation we can arrange some optional excursions.
Back to the civilized world. A few hours drive brings you back to Vancouver and you will be staying in the same hotel as on your first day. Chinatown? Robson Street for some great souvenirs? Or inhale the peace of Stanley Park?
You and your kids will probably come to the conclusion that this was the best 'true-family-holiday' ever. Say good-bye and... come again.
